Wolters Kluwer Health continues to transform healthcare delivery with a more robust AI-powered UpToDate® Enterprise Edition solution, built to help providers make more tailored patient care decisions and healthcare leaders to improve care with data-driven insights. Demonstrations will be in booth #3219 at HLTH 2024, held October 21-23 in Las Vegas.

“Healthcare organizations around the world are looking for effective ways to substantively improve care,” said Yaw Fellin, Vice President, Product and Solutions, Clinical Effectiveness, at Wolters Kluwer Health. “Backed by the Wolters Kluwer commitment to responsible AI innovation, UpToDate Enterprise Edition will speed answers to clinicians and help hospital leaders surface insights they can use to optimize care through AI-powered search functionality.”

Smarter AI search for faster, trusted answers

When treating patients, seconds matter as clinicians seek trustworthy answers to medical questions. New AI enhancements will bring a faster, natural search experience to UpToDate users. Developed with customers in AI Labs for UpToDate, the rigorously tested new AI search feature better understands questions entered using natural language, as well as more complex questions.

With streamlined AI-powered search, clinicians receive rapid answers with focused verbatim passages retrieved directly from UpToDate, the clinical decision support (CDS) resource trusted by over two million users around the world. Using word-for-word UpToDate passages puts users’ minds at ease about the reliability and quality of the clinical evidence and the recommendations provided. Quicker access to focused information delivered in a timely fashion means providers can spend less time on a computer or device, and more time with patients.

AI-powered insights dashboard

To support healthcare leaders responsible for performance improvement efforts, an expanded analytics dashboard displays systemwide utilization data with helpful visualizations to show how and where UpToDate resources are being used.

Hospital administrators and team leaders can also track trends, quickly spotting variances from national and internal benchmarks. UpToDate Enterprise Edition usage data is aggregated and analyzed using AI to surface big-picture and granular insights into the clinical guidance care teams are seeking for the most common and highest priority chronic conditions and medications. In addition to supporting quality improvement objectives, actionable insights can empower hospital management to proactively support care teams in efforts to deliver better patient care.

“This is an important shift in the way I personally use UpToDate,” said Amanda Comer, DNP, System Director, Baptist Memorial Health Care. “I currently primarily use UpToDate as a point of care tool when I’m with a patient. But this data unlocks a huge opportunity to use UpToDate as a learning and educational tool. We can identify cohorts and target them with additional support.”

A richer, more customized analytics portal, actionable insights

With the refreshed and optimized UpToDate Enterprise Edition Portal, hospital leaders have easier access to clinical decision-making resources that are essential for teams focused on delivering better patient care. With added options for customization, the intuitive portal delivers trusted UpToDate content in three curated segments: clinical topics, drug monographs, and patient education. Plus, new clinical guidance is spotlighted to help administrators implement practice changes more effectively.

Collaborations with AI-powered ambient listening and clinical workflow leaders

Wolters Kluwer is working with leading healthcare AI innovators to explore new ways to reduce friction in the clinical workflow and to reduce clinicians’ workload. Wolters Kluwer recently unveiled a collaboration with Wellsheet’s AI-powered clinical workflows to put trusted evidence-based content from UpToDate into Wellsheet’s Smart EHR UI application. Wolters Kluwer also announced a collaboration with Abridge to bring UpToDate into their AI clinical conversation platform, helping to cut administrative burden and improve patient visits by automatically pairing trusted UpToDate evidence-based content with AI-generated clinical notes.
